When we say "Ring," we always mean the Nürburgring. It is one of the best proving grounds on Earth and is home to some of the fastest-production cars ever made. Throughout 12.94 miles, with its very high speed, 154 corners, and steep climbs and descents, the track has become infamous for pushing the limits of cars and their drivers, also known as "The Green Hell."
Every year, some of the most famous car companies in the world, especially some major European manufacturers (such as Porsche, Mercedes-AMG, Lamborghini, and Ferrari), take to the Nürburgring to test out their cars. So who is currently the fastest production car? The Porsche 911 GT2 RS MR set a new record on the Nürburgring track in 6:43.300s on 25 October 2018, making it the fastest production car around the Nordschleife circuit.

And here it is, the Porsche 911 GT2 RS setting a new fastest time around the Nürburgring Nordschleife. This was a record the German marque and their brand set for themselves last year. Armed with a Manthey-Racing performance kit, they broke their own previous record of 6:47.3 from 2017.
The GT2 RS MR was equipped with plenty of race-focused modifications, including magnesium wheels and a thread chassis, to help propel it faster through the track. As a result, the GT2 RS' 6:43:300s record around the Nürburgring made it the fastest car ever on that famous track—so fast that Mercedes-AMG bowed to GT2 RS MR by acknowledging being dethroned by the Porsche.
It's not only their luxury sedans and SUVs that have made Mercedes-Benz famous. The AMG division of the automaker is equally well-known for making extremely powerful, high-performance sports cars. Among the AMG lineup, the Black Series is the most extreme AMG GT model ever, housing a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that churns out 720 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque.
In October 2020, the AMG GT Black Series set a record at the German racetrack. Driven by Maro Engel, the Mercedes-Benz supercar lapped the Nürburgring-Nordschleife with an impressive 6:43.616s — to be precise, 1.36 seconds quicker than its previous record holder, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ.
After the Lamborghini Huracán Performante lost the fastest production car lap record at the Nürburgring to the Porsche 911 GT2 RS in 2017, this new Aventador SVJ sought to gain back that crown for its brand. This was a track-focused Aventador, and it attacked each of the track’s 154 corners with one goal in mind: reclaiming its title as the fastest around all of them.
To the Italian’s great joy, Lamborghini’s new supercar, the Aventador SVJ, managed to set a new record around the track, defeating the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and also becoming the new fastest Lambo on the track with a phenomenal time of 6:44:97s. This was three seconds faster than the old record, and the Aventador SVJ became the new fastest road-going supercar.
The Porsche 911 has been a crowd favorite for decades for its nimble handling and horsepower. The latest generation of the GT2 RS is no different, as it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds thanks to its 700-horsepower engine.
In 2017, Porsche test driver Lars Kern recorded a lap time of 6:47.3 sec at the Nürburgring for the GT2 RS, setting the fastest road-legal car record then. What's more impressive is that he was able to record all five flying laps under 6 min 50 s — which would have been quick to steal Lamborghini's thunder.

Until October 2016, the Lamborghini Aventador SV had been the fastest Raging Bull across the Nürburgring. But when it came time for the Huracán Performante—a performance-focused variant of the Huracan—to test itself on the Green Hell, its 5.2-liter V10 engine and 631 horsepower helped it snag the crown from its older cousin.
The Huracán Performante, which was driven by Lamborghini’s test driver Marco Mapelli, set a new lap record for the fastest production car at the time and also the fastest Lamborghini on the track with a time of 6:52:01s.
6Porsche 911 GT3

The new 911 GT3 is an evolution of the previous model, bringing together updated styling cues from the 992-generation 911 with aero features from its namesake race series. It's only marginally more powerful and just a tad lighter, but it's significantly quicker on the Nürburgring.
In 2018, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS set a time of 6:56:4s around the Nürburgring, and in September 2020, the subsequent Porsche 911 GT3 (992-gen) shaved off an entire second off the old time at 6:55:34s.
In 2018, Porsche Works race driver Kévin Estre set a lap time of 6:56.4 minutes with the 520 horsepower GT3 RS. Following the 918 Spyder and the 911 GT2 RS, the new GT3 RS is the fourth production Porsche sports car with a notarized lap time of less than seven minutes on the "Green Hell."
As is customary for record drives, the time was measured around the 20.6-kilometer (approximately 12.5 miles) Nordschleife course of Germany's famed Nürburgring racetrack.

The Porsche 918 Spyder posted an official time of 6:57. This makes it the first of the "Big Three" automakers to set a time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife racetrack. Its 4.6-liter V8 engine is combined with two electric motors to put out 875 horsepower and 944 lb-ft of torque. At 0-60mph, this hybrid car breaks the two-second mark by clocking in at 2.5 seconds.
The Porsche 918 Spyder, with its Weissach Package and a skilled driver, set a time of 6:57s in 2013. This time made it the fastest street-legal hypercar in history, beating out some big names in the industry like the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari. To this day, the 918 Spyder remains one of the best sports cars out there.
9Porsche 911 GT2 RS

Sport Auto's Christian Gebhardt is undoubtedly a fantastic driver around the Nürburgring, including a class win in the 24-hour race there. Though his lap time is 6:58.28, he shows incredible skill as he pilots the GT2 RS around the course here, edging out the Lamborghini Aventador SV by just over a second.
The GT2 RS is an amazing car, regardless of who's behind the wheel. Its 3.8-liter biturbo flat-six engine pumps out 690 horsepower (515 kilowatts) and 553 pound-feet (750 Newton-meters) of torque. An optional Weissach package sheds weight through more extensive use of carbon fiber and magnesium wheels. The car goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 2.7 seconds, and can go up to 211 mph (340 kph).

Lamborghinis are known for their powerful V12 engines and luxurious interiors, but the brand has never been known for a nimble and precise racetrack-focused car. That changed with the introduction of the new Lamborghini Aventador SuperVeloce in 2015, which shattered the 7-minute barrier at Germany's Nürburgring.
Armed with Pirelli tires, the Aventador SV managed to break the 7-minute barrier at the Nürburgring, running a 6:59:73 in testing. Having achieved what it set out to do, the Aventador then became one of the fastest Lamborghinis at the Nürburgring, before being overtaken by the Huracán Performante in 2016.

In 2017, the Dodge Viper ACR established a new record time at the Nürburgring of 7:01.3s. Even though it fell short of the sub-seven minute goal, it surpassed its previous lap time of 7:03.45s and became the fastest street-legal Dodge Viper around The Green Hell.
The Dodge Viper ACR clocked a lap time of 7:01.3, earning it 12th place on the 'Ring among all cars, just behind the Lamborghini Aventador SV which posted a time of — 6:59.73s and beating competitors like the Nissan GT-R Nismo and Mercedes-AMG GT R.
At the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2021, Porsche will introduce the 718 Cayman GT4 RS. It's the performance flagship of the 718 range and likely the last mid-engined sportscar from Zuffenhausen before Porsche switches over to electric vehicles.
The 718 Cayman GT4 RS has already proven itself on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, clocking a 7:04.511 lap time (7:09.300 for the full 20.832 km), making it 23.6 seconds faster than the 718 Cayman GT4.

The Pro features the same twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 as the GT R and generates 577 HP (585 PS) and 516 lb-ft (700 Nm) of torque. It accelerates from zero to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds, and can reach a maximum speed of 198 mph (318 km/h). It also produces more downforce than the GT R, has a new suspension system and lightweight bucket seats and wheels, which enhance its rigidity and stability.
