Like a lot of you, I am a huge Formula One fan. I have been fascinated by F1 since I was a child and watched Senna battle it out with arch-rival Prost. There are so many great stories and legends in F1 history: Fangio, Clark, Hunt, Ayrton Senna, and Schumacher are just a few of them. And while they all left their stamp on the sport, the only thing that matters when the chequered flag falls is who won the race.
Formula 1 is a team sport. There are no one-man teams, and performance is heavily contingent on the contributions of the other members of the team. This means that there will always be teething problems, and some teams will have acquired their success more than others. It's impossible to know how successful a Formula 1 team will be until they step up to the starting grid. In short, don't judge a book by its cover; instead you should look beneath the surface. By measuring up teams according to their successes in terms of constructor titles, driver titles and race victories, we can see which teams really deserve our attention.
In this article, we'll be putting together an overview of the most successful F1 teams in history.
The 13 Most Successful F1 Teams of All Time (1950-2022)
There you have it—the most successful F1 teams in history, ranked according to the titles they've taken.
As you can see, Ferrari is clearly the most successful constructor, with 15 titles. Despite being at the top of the list, however, they haven't won another constructors' title since 2008 (though they have had many drivers' champions). They are followed by McLaren (12 titles) and Mercedes (9 titles).
If you're a long-time F1 fan, you probably knew all of this already—or at least believed strongly enough that your favorite team was number one. And to you newcomers, I hope this has been an interesting and informative exercise as well.
