At this year's CES International Consumer Electronics Show, Google released Google HD Maps designed for cars, which can provide more detailed and real-time road information, including lane markings and traffic signals, as well as support L2+ and L3 automatic driving assistance technologies. These new features will help make driving safer.
In recent years, since the popularity of two car navigation systems, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, many North American drivers have gradually become accustomed to using Google Maps for navigation. In order to closely integrate this service with the vehicle's automatic driving system, Google has specially cooperated with Volvo and Polestar to develop high-definition maps specifically designed for cars. These maps can directly correspond to the digital dashboard and realize driving assistance functions such as automatic lane change when entering the automatic driving state.
Not only that, but at the same time, Google announced that Volvo EX90 and Polestar 3 would be the first to import Google HD Maps into their vehicles. At that time, the information provided by the map will be integrated with the vehicle's intelligent hardware driving and will be passed through Nvidia Drive artificial intelligence platform Xavier Integrated with Orin-powered high-computing chips to provide a smarter and safer driving experience.
As well as this, Google has announced that its in-vehicle entertainment system will soon launch the 11th OTA update. The update includes new features for its smart voice assistant, including expanded abilities to control vehicle functions. For example, users can now ask Google’s smart voice assistant about their vehicle’s battery level, fuel level, and charging status; switch on and off the air conditioning system; check the Charging status and turn on and off the charging function, and even remote unlock the car door and adjust the temperature from a smart device equipped with Google’s smart voice assistant. Currently, this feature is only available in the US; it plans to expand to other markets in the near future.
At the same time as the opening of the 2023 CES, Volvo's new 7-seat pure electric SUV EX90 also debuted in North America for the first time. Online reservations have been opened in the US market, but delivery is expected to begin in early 2024, with no price announced.
