Here's Why Toyota's C-HR will be discontinued in 2023 in the U.S. and Canada!

Toyota said the Corolla Cross and RAV4 crossovers would become alternatives to the C-HR after 2022.

Here's Why Toyota's C-HR will be discontinued in 2023 in the U.S. and Canada!

Toyota recently released the C-HR Prologue concept car, predicting that its new generation will be released soon. At the same time, news has emerged in the North American market that the current C-HR will be discontinued in 2023, and no successor has been introduced. This move indicates an intention to withdraw directly from the North American market.

According to foreign media reports, the U.S. version of the C-HR will be discontinued after 2022 models are sold. The reason is that the addition of the U.S.-spec Toyota Corolla Cross has reduced the sales space of the C-HR. It offers a 2.0-liter gasoline-electric powertrain with a maximum output of 194 hp, while the American standard C-HR only has a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 146 hp to choose from—and its performance in terms of space and practicality doesn't measure up to that of the Corolla Cross.

Toyota Corolla Cross

At the end of the day, we'd have to give the Toyota Corolla Cross a nod. The Corolla Cross is bigger, more powerful, and more fuel efficient at every level as well as being more affordable in the short-term and long-term compared to the C-HR subcompact crossover SUV.

However, Toyota is optimistic about the development of the next-generation C-HR in the European market. The next-generation C-HR will have a more avant-garde and eye-catching appearance than before, and it is expected to launch a PHEV model that comes with a plug-in hybrid electric system. Referring to the new Prius released in the US, it is speculated that the next-generation C-HR may adopt the same power configuration, providing 1.8-liter gasoline engine power along with 2.0-liter plug-in gasoline engine power.

Conclusion

The C-HR is a well-constructed subcompact crossover SUV that gets good fuel economy. However, it is slow. Very slow. This trait can be off-putting to some potential buyers. As a result, Toyota has decided to discontinue the C-HR model in the U.S. and Canada; another main reason is that the addition of the Corolla Cross has reduced the sales space for the C-HR, and the Corolla Cross is a more powerful, spacious, and practical vehicle.
