Following the debut of the Toyota C-HR Prologue concept car, Japanese media recently received news that the production version of the new C-HR may be launched in May 2023 and is expected to share an engine with the new Prius.
As reported by Japanese media Bestcarweb, Toyota dealers have confirmed that the C-HR will undergo a major facelift in May 2023. The new vehicle will be underpinned by a newly developed platform that improves body rigidity, safety, handling, and driving performance while improving fuel efficiency.
A few days ago, European Toyota announced the C-HR Prologue concept car, which reveals the design direction of the future C-HR major facelift. The new model is intended to evoke a sense of adventure and dynamism.
In terms of power, Toyota has confirmed that the new C-HR will be equipped with a Hybrid gasoline-electric system and a plug-in hybrid system. In addition, the new car is expected to share its power configuration with the new Prius, and the previous 1.2L turbocharged engine will be removed.
The new Prius has three power options in the current market: 1.8L Hybrid, 2.0L Hybrid, and 2.0L Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The 2.0L version has a combined output of 193PS, and an E-Four four-wheel drive version is available.
In addition, Toyota will launch the Prius PHEV version in the spring of 2023 with a 2.0L Dynamic Force engine, combined with an electric motor, for a combined maximum horsepower of 223PS. The acceleration from 0-100km/h is 6.7 seconds, and the larger 13.6kWh lithium-ion battery offers added mileage—more than 94km of pure-electric cruising range.
The previous reports from foreign media say that the next-generation C-HR will not enter the United States and Canada, and from 2022 on, C-HR will withdraw from the North American market. Judging from the sales trend of C-HR around the world, it is expected that the next generation of models will focus on the European market.
